    Cambodia Town Culture Festival

    Save the date Cambodia Town Inc will be hosting their Annual Cambodia Town Culture Festival at the Mark Twain Library on Sunday, April 7. Program will start at 9:00 AM and will end at 5:00 PM. This year, the culture festival will honor Lakhaon Khaol. Lakhaon Khaol is a Cambodia traditional theater performance that has its origins in pre-Angkorian and is structured as a combination of dance, chanted narration, and mimed gesture, all performed accompanied by pin peat music.     Hearings on proposed demolition of Central Long Beach businesses postponed following community backlash, mayor intervention

    One of the proposed developments is a shopping center at 1320 Atlantic Ave., at the corner of Anaheim Street, which includes Poly Burgers, La Lune Thmey restaurant (where elected leaders have held events including remembrances of the Khmer Rouge genocide), Babette Bakery and Smart N Final, which is expected to remain as an anchor tenant.

    As cities around the country celebrate Citizenship Day and Welcoming Week, the City of Long Beach in partnership with New American Economy (NAE) released a report revealing that in 2016, immigrants in the City of Long Beach had a significant impact on the local economy. The report advances the economic inclusion goals of the City’s Blueprint for Economic Development by making available important baseline information for the local immigrant community that can be used to help inform the implementation of programs and services.     Shin and Nia on tour of Cambodia Town District in Long Beach. They are from the Youth Department of the Sister Cities International. We hope to have them come to participate in the 11th Annual Cambodia Town Culture Festival in 2019. In middle of the tour, we took Shin and Nia to greet Lok Chumteav Sinath Hun, Mrs. Kossma Sok, President of Cambodian Women Peace and Development, and other Cambodian friends in Somaly Shop.

Their mission is to Keep Cambodia Town Clean & Safe.  Cambodia Town, Inc. Board of Directors, Founder of Cambodia Town Neighborhood Association and friends were picking up trash on Anaheim Street between Cherry Ave. and Walnut Street in Cambodia Town District. We hope to see more people joining us next month.
